New generation batteries: 3 billion for UE research
European research project involving 17 companies from Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Sweden
Batteries are now the most critical element both for accumulating energy produced at alternating rates (solar or wind) and for powering electric cars. So Europe considers strategic this sector for future energy plans and environmental policies. ### The aim of the project is to develop new generation batteries, with positive effects both in terms of environmental sustainability and competitiveness of the European industrial system. The R&D activities concern the entire supply chain: basic technologies, production, reconversion, recycling and disposal, with interests shared by the public and private sectors.
However, it should be noted that today, to power an electric car, much more oil is needed than a traditional car needs to do the same route: in fact, transporting electricity from production to consumption involves many losses and for many years green energy produced will be much less than that required for all circulating cars. So favoring electric cars without waiting for an adequate development of green energies to feed them is a senseless approach.
It is difficult to say whether this contradiction is intended as a hidden state aid for vehicle manufacturers, thanks to the scrapping of the vehicle park in advance, or whether it is simply due to the ignorance of many politicians, who believe what is written by equally ignorant journalists.
